Co-founder & Chief AI Officer

James A. Lang

James is co-founder of Velinor and a Fractional Chief AI Officer to boards, government departments and regulated enterprises. He is the author of the AI Blindspot Framework, the risk taxonomy that underpins every Velinor engagement.

A former British Army Warrant Officer Class 1 with more than twenty years in the Royal Signals, James pioneered the British Army’s first Cyber Protection Team and went on to become the Ministry of Defence’s first AI Cybersecurity Product Manager. He co-founded and exited an AI cyber-defence company whose sovereign agentic AI was accredited to run on the UK MoD classified network.

He is a CISSP and an ISO 27001 Lead Auditor, sits on the D3IP advisory board, writes the Velinor AI Leadership briefing, and is the public face of the AI Blindspot Framework.

Co-founder & Chief Technology Officer

Ben Brand

Ben is co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Velinor, where he builds the machinery: the assurance platform, the intelligence pipeline that feeds it, and the scoring engine that turns AI risk into evidence a board can act on.

A former British Army intelligence analyst, Ben specialised in cyber threat intelligence, hunting adversaries across defence networks. Since leaving the Army he has worked with UK government, the UK military and private-sector clients across cyber security and artificial intelligence.

He is also a geopolitical analyst, and built the intelligence machine behind that work: an automated system that ingests open-source reporting at scale, grades it for source reliability, and turns it into daily assessments. The same engineering runs underneath Velinor’s assurance platform. The job is not to catalogue every risk, but to surface the ones a director has to act on this week.
